At the December 15 Board of Trustees meeting, CTPF recognized two Trustees for their service and launched its milestone program for Trustees and Employees.

Santa, also known as CTPF’s Executive Director Carlton W. Lenoir, Sr., and some of his helpers made a special stop on Friday afternoon to visit the students at Yates Elementary, distributing gifts for 300 students, along with hats and gloves and  presents for the 45 special needs students in their elementary program. The gifts were purchased through a fundraiser hosted by CTPF staff and the kids were thrilled with their special visit from Santa!

CTPF has learned that CPS teachers are receiving emails from a Gabriel Christopher, purporting to represent National Life Group, and offering to provide a “Chicago Public Schools Pension/Retirement Review.” Mr. Christopher identifies himself as a “Chicago Retirement Advisor,” and his marketing materials may include a copy of CTPF’s 2022 Retirement Seminar. Please be advised that neither Mr. Christopher nor National Life Group is affiliated with or endorsed by CTPF, and that the materials appear to be a solicitation for insurance products.

At their October meeting, the Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund (CTPF) Board of Trustees voted to immediately commit to engagement with fossil fuel companies to encourage them toward a path of clean renewable energy sources and to divest from fossil fuel holdings and/or to invest in viable clean energy sources to fully offset the Fund’s fossil fuel investments by December 2027.

The Health Insurance Premium Subsidy is set annually by the Board of Trustees.  At the August 17, 2022, Board of Trustees meeting, it was decided that the subsidy will remain at 60% in 2023. The subsidy is only available to eligible CTPF members. Dependent coverage is not eligible for the subsidy.

The Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund (CTPF) Board of Trustees has released its 2021 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) which includes the Fund’s audited financial statements, management’s analysis, statistics, and other financial information. The ACFR is prepared by staff, reviewed by CTPF’s independent auditor, and includes detailed investment, actuarial, and statistical information about CTPF’s financial condition and operations for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021.

The Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund secured funding for Fiscal Year 2023 (July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023), from the State of Illinois during the Spring Legislative session.  

House Bill 900 appropriated $295,302,000 for normal costs and health insurance and an additional required State contribution of $13,371,000 (.544% of payroll) for CTPF.  

The Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund (CTPF) announced the release of its 2022 Economic Impact Statement. CTPF made $1.4 billion in direct payments to annuitants living in Illinois in 2021. Those payments had a $2.0 billion impact on the Illinois economy, supporting more than 13,583 jobs in the State. The Buck Stays Here: Understanding the Economic Impact of CTPF Benefit Payments on the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago is produced annually and details CTPF's impact on the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago. The report includes economic impact by legislative district and Chicago ward.  

At a Special Meeting of the Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund (CTPF or the Fund) Board of Trustees on Thursday, March 10, 2022, the Board passed a resolution withdrawing investments in Russia and supporting the Ukrainian people. Read the full 2022 Divestiture Resolution here. 

The unprecedented events that have taken place in eastern Europe, with the invasion of Ukraine, by Russia have sparked global outrage and international response. The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) prohibited certain investments due to a round of international sanctions. The sanctions and moral imperative are impacting pension funds across the country, as they evaluate and consider reinvesting assets which may be currently invested in Russia.  

During their February 17, 2022, meeting the CTPF Board of Trustees thanked Trustees James Cavallaro and Gervaise Clay for their service and presented them with Distinguished Service Awards.  

The Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund (CTPF) is committed to protecting members’ data, and in an effort to improve the security of personal information, CTPF will no longer offer Change of Address (107) and Direct Deposit (425) forms for download from www.ctpf.org. Members who need to change their address or change their direct deposit information should call Member Services, at 312.641.4464 to request these forms. Your identity will be confirmed before the forms are issued.  

The 2021 1099R for pensioners will be mailed today, January 31, 2022, to the address on file at the CTPF on December 14, 2021. The forms will also be posted in the myCTPF Member Self Service Portal on February 1, 2022. If you need a replacement form, you are encouraged to create an account at myCTPF so that you can download it directly. Reprints for 1099Rs will not start until February 15, 2022. 

The CTPF office is closed Monday, January 17, 2022, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday. CTPF will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. 

Pensioners who receive payments effective January 1, 2022, may see several benefit changes.  

January 2022 payments may include an Automatic Annual Increase (based on eligibility and Tier) and deductions for the new health insurance rates. Review your January 2022 pension pay advice carefully. Your pay advices can be accessed at any time on myCTPF.

The CTPF office will be closed on Thusday, November 11, 2021, in observance of Veterans Day. Operations will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. 

Due to US Postal Service mail delays, CTPF is extending the date to return ballots in the Pensioner Trustee Election. All ballots must now be postmarked by November 6, 2021, and received by the Election agent by 5:00 p.m. (CT) on November 12, 2021. 

CTPF mailed ballots via first-class mail to all eligible voters in the Pensioner Trustee election on Monday, October 18. Emails with voting credentials were also sent at that time to all pensioners with an email address on file.

The Fund has received reports from members who have not received their ballots due to delays with the US Mail.
