As we mark the 50th
anniversary of Pension
News, we have an
opportunity to reflect
on something larger
than a publication.
For five decades,
these pages have
documented the
history of the Chicago
Teachers’ Pension Fund, the evolving
needs of our members, and the work
undertaken to protect the retirement
security of Chicago's educators. What
began as a simple letter known as the
“Pink Sheet” has become a record of
service, advocacy, and commitment that
spans generations.
Looking back through archived editions,
I am struck by how much has changed,
and how much has remained the
same. Early issues focused on pension
funding, legislative developments,
Trustee elections, retirement planning,
and member services. These topics
continue to shape our work today
because the mission of CTPF remains as
relevant today as it was fifty years ago:
to provide, protect, and enhance the
economic well-being of the educators
who dedicate their careers to serving
Chicago’s students.
As we look ahead, it is remarkable to
consider how much our communications
have evolved alongside Pension News.
What began as a simple printed newsletter
has grown into a broader commitment
to keeping members informed through
multiple channels, including email
updates, webinars, online resources, social
media, and the myCTPF Member Self-
Service Portal.
While Pension News remains an important
record of our shared history, timely
information increasingly reaches members
through digital platforms that allow
us to communicate more quickly and
efficiently. For that reason, I encourage
every member to register for myCTPF and
ensure their contact information remains
current. Registering is one of the best
ways to stay connected with CTPF and
receive information when it matters most.
The methods may have changed over the
past fifty years, but our commitment to
providing clear, reliable communication
and exceptional service remains as
strong as ever. As we celebrate this CTPF
milestone, I want to thank our members,
retirees, trustees, and staff for being part
of this story. Your dedication, engagement,
and advocacy have helped shape our past
and will continue to guide our future.
We are honored to serve you and remain
committed to preserving the trust you
place in us every day.
